Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are the third largest workforce and make unique and valuable contribution across mental health services.

The NHS Long Term Plan describes AHPs as playing a central role in the delivery of person-centred care to help meet the changing demands the NHS is facing.

As these demands continue to increase, the shape of the workforce is likely to change as new models of care are explored. Across NHS mental health services in England, an estimated 27,000 (WTE) new mental health posts will be needed to deliver the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions, this includes AHP posts.

To support this growth, HEE has recently published a new infographic to demonstrate to the system, employers and workforce planners how AHPs can make a unique contribution to mental health services.
