Professional behaviour is essential for providing safe, effective, and respectful care. This section highlights the standards, expectations, and values that guide conduct in healthcare settings. Understanding and demonstrating professional behaviour helps build trust with patients, supports effective teamwork, and contributes to personal and career development.
Communities of Practice are groups of individuals who share a common interest or profession and learn from each other through collaboration, discussion, and shared experiences. In healthcare, these communities help learners and professionals develop skills, share knowledge, solve problems, and stay up to date with best practices, ultimately improving patient care and professional development.

Practice Educator and Assessor training equips healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge to effectively support, supervise, and assess learners in clinical settings. It ensures that learners receive high-quality guidance, constructive feedback, and structured learning experiences, helping to develop a competent and confident future workforce.
Within West Yorkshire, the Practice Educator and Assessor Preparation (PEAP) programme has been developed collaboratively by the West Yorkshire ICB, the five West Yorkshire Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and in consultation with placement providers and learners. The programme provides a centralised, system-wide training package that is freely accessible, updated annually, and aligned with HCPC and NMC standards.
The PEAP programme consists of 8 modules, each taking up to one hour to complete. NMC Supervisors are required to complete Modules 1–6, while NMC Assessors and HCPC Practice Educators complete all 8 modules. A downloadable workbook supports learning throughout the programme, and a certificate is provided upon completion for CPD purposes. The programme is accessible to all staff who support students, including educators, assessors, supervisors, and support workers.
The new PEAP programme will be launched shortly and further details will be available on this website once it is launched.
The West Yorkshire Learner Passport supports educators and assessors by providing key learner information before a placement begins - helping you prepare, plan and tailor support for each individual. It has been co-developed with partners across West Yorkshire to promote a consistent approach to learner preperation and communication.
The below resources are available to access:
The Learner Passport template
The Learner Passport User Guide - Outlining the role of each person involved.
A recorded overview presentation - Explaining how the passport works in practice.
Inclusive training within practice for healthcare learners and international staff - This training offers learning resources to support inclusive practice in healthcare and in education with specific focus on healthcare practice education for Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs. These resources address the root cause of racism and discrimination with the aim of improving the experiences and outcomes of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic learners and internationally educated staff in healthcare. These resources are appropriate for a range of audiences across Higher Education Institutions (HEI's), Further Education Colleges (FE) and healthcare including the whole workforce. This multi pronged approach is necessary to achieve systemic cultural and behavioural change.
Further courses and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities are available and details will be added here.
